Social Charter for Air France KLM

A Social Charter protecting workers’ social rights and working conditions was adopted by airline company Air France KLM yesterday. ETF General Secretary Eduardo Chagas co-signed the document along with management and European Works’ Council (EWC) representatives.
The Charter is the result of an agreement between the company and the (EWC), which succeeded to extend the former Air France (AF) Charter to the new Group AF KLM.
The Charter highlights the commitment of AF KLM Group to uphold and comply with international and EU social rights and law, promote health and safety at work, foster employability and respect wage and benefits levels as stipulated in collective and individual agreements, promote social dialogue and information and consultation of employees. It covers all sub-contractors with whom AF KLM maintains relations.
The European Works’ Council will monitor the implementation of the Charter via the EWC Select Committee and a progress report will be discussed annually, in one of the EWC plenary meetings. The Charter will be revised every five years.
“The Charter has a significant meaning for the company’s workers. It provides a social counterbalancing dimension to demands for further flexibility in the industry. Management is engaging to respect collective agreements and other economic employee rights. We would like to see more agreements like this one adopted in other companies”, said Eduardo Chagas.
